Part 1 of 9 · 9Chain in Nine Parts
Every society has kept a ledger. For most of history, that ledger has belonged to someone else. 9Chain exists so that anyone can have one of their own.
The problem: infrastructure for the few
In the first era of blockchain, launching a network of your own took deep expertise, heavy funding and a long runway. Those barriers left the power to build digital infrastructure with a small number of well-resourced organisations. Everyone else could use what they built, on their terms, for as long as they allowed it.
We think that is the wrong way round. The people who understand a problem best should be the ones able to build the infrastructure that answers it.
What 9Chain is
9Chain is a multi-chain network, for everyone: a public Layer 1 and a platform for creating and operating sovereign chains.
- A chain of your own, not a tenancy. A sovereign chain has its own validators, its own rules, its own governance and its own economics. It is not a contract on somebody else’s network, revocable at their discretion.
- Independent, but not isolated. Each chain sets its own purpose, yet chains can communicate, share data and exchange value. Thousands of specialised chains, different from one another and still able to connect.
- One identity across many chains. When everyone can have a chain, chains stop being scarce. What becomes scarce is an identity that can be verified and trusted across all of them. The shared network is where that trust lives.
- Standard tools. Existing Solidity contracts, wallets and developer tools work without being rewritten.
Vision: blockchain should not be a privilege of the few
The aim is for starting a sovereign chain to feel as ordinary as starting a website or an online community: within reach of an individual, not only an institution.
Three words carry the vision:
- Create: anyone with an initiative can start a chain.
- Own: the chain you create is yours.
- Govern: people should not only use technology others built. They should be able to create, own and govern the digital infrastructure they depend on.
Who it is for: an individual with an initiative. A business serving customers and partners. A school recording learning and achievement. A community setting its own rules. A city or a country building infrastructure that fits its own conditions, rather than one imported wholesale.
Strategy: inherit, compare, decide together
Inheritance, not year zero. 9Chain does not begin by rejecting what already works. It inherits proven blockchain technology, selects carefully, and carries it forward. Every new chain inherits the platform, the tooling and every improvement made across the ecosystem.
Two foundations, side by side. The most consequential choice, the engine underneath the network, is being kept open on purpose. Two public test networks of the same platform run in parallel:
| 9Chain A1 | 9Chain C1 | |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | avalanchego fork, Snow consensus | Cosmos SDK, CometBFT consensus |
| Site | a1.9chain.org | c1.9chain.org |
| Explorer | a1.9scan.org | c1.9scan.org |
The order is alphabetical and carries no ranking. Both will be measured the same way, the measurements published, and then the community votes on which engine the official network is built on. That vote is not open yet. Whatever people build above the engine is designed to outlive the decision underneath it.
No final version. No release of this technology will be declared finished. A network people depend on has to keep learning, correcting itself and changing alongside them.
Mission: nine missions meant to outlast the technology
Everything the network does is meant to answer to these. Implementations will change; these are written to mean the same thing long after today’s code is gone.
- Honour: every genuine contribution, recognised for what it was.
- Heal: what was left broken or unfinished, made whole where it can be.
- Agree: shared principles settled together, not handed down.
- Uphold: the dignity and the worth of every person.
- Protect: identity, rights, and work rightfully earned.
- Advance: access and opportunity, widened rather than rationed.
- Connect: people, communities, networks, and civilisations.
- Harmonise: difference turned into shared value instead of division.
- Preserve: memory, principle and inheritance, kept for those who come after.
What it means for people
- For a person: a ledger of your own, and an identity you carry with you instead of renting from a platform.
- For a business: infrastructure you control, with its own rules, that can still connect to partners.
- For a school: a record of learning and achievement that belongs to the school and its students.
- For a community: rules you write and change together, recorded where everyone can check them.
- For a city or a country: digital infrastructure shaped by local conditions, not imported wholesale.
Where things stand today
We would rather you trust us for being clear than for being loud.
- Today: two public test networks, A1 and C1. Creating a chain on them already works, with minutes of setup and some technical familiarity. Closer to the aim than before, and not yet at it.
- Test networks are tests: balances carry no value, chain state can be reset, and nothing here is an offer to buy or sell anything.
- LOVE9 is the native coin of the network. The project does not sell it, list it, support its price or promise returns. Every economic figure in the documentation is proposed, for the community to vote on.
- Nothing is final yet: everything has been built and proposed by the founding team, and stays open to challenge and vote before the official network exists.
