_Part 2 of 9 · 9Chain in Nine Parts_

**Code gets rewritten; engines get replaced. The nine missions are the part meant to stay: questions every future version of 9Chain must still answer.**

## Verbs, not values

The docs page, _Nine Missions for Nine Billion_, says it is written for someone not yet born. The missions are not promises; they are nine jobs 9Chain takes on together with people. They are verbs, not values: a value can be declared, a verb has to be done, and doing can be seen. So each comes with a **sign** that shows whether it is becoming true, and **one thing it will not trade away**.

Each mission faces three ways at once: the **past** (how to treat what already happened), the **present** (what to do for a person alive today) and the **future** (what to leave for someone not yet here). A mission missing one face is not finished. The order below is a reading order, not an order of importance.

## The nine missions

Bold text is the official wording on [9chain.org](https://9chain.org); the explanation follows the [Nine missions](https://docs.9chain.org/vi/chin-su-menh) page.

**1. Honour: every genuine contribution, recognised for what it was.**
What you did for others does not expire. It keeps its value after you have forgotten it, and is returned by a formula anyone can read.

**2. Heal: what was left broken or unfinished, made whole where it can be.**
A ledger that never forgets has to learn to forgive. Where nothing can be erased, healing means adding: the correction sits next to the mistake.

**3. Agree: shared principles settled together, not handed down.**
Many networks agree very well on the order of transactions. The harder, worthier job is agreeing about people. The rules are ours, and so is the ruling when we disagree.

**4. Uphold: the dignity and the worth of every person.**
You may be richer than me, but you cannot be two people. Whatever a system rewards, it produces more of, so choosing what to count is choosing a future.

**5. Protect: identity, rights, and work rightfully earned.**
The ledger about your life should be in your hands: your keys, private contents, and it lives on after whoever built it is gone.

**6. Advance: access and opportunity, widened rather than rationed.**
You should not need to have something already to begin. The first step costs most, and costs most for those who have least.

**7. Connect: people, communities, networks, and civilisations.**
One identity that follows you like your own face, recognised by every ledger, stopping at no border.

**8. Harmonise: difference turned into shared value instead of division.**
Strangers who do not need to trust each other make something none of them could make alone. Village markets have done it for millennia; what is missing is planetary scale.

**9. Preserve: memory, principle and inheritance, kept for those who come after.**
Last forever, and evolve forever: there will never be a 10.0. A child born in 2100 should still read the first line, and fix our generation’s mistakes without tearing it down.

## Nine signs you can check

This is where missions reach decisions: each has a visible sign, and a line the network will not cross.

| Mission | Sign it is becoming true | What it will not trade away |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Honour | the gap between the largest share and the share of someone in the middle | a head start for early arrivals |
| Heal | corrections made with another record, not by a new network birth | erasing history |
| Agree | the share of voting power outside the project’s hands | rules decided off the chain |
| Uphold | the share distributed to wallets of verified people | rewards by capital or seniority |
| Protect | chains whose keys are in their owners’ hands | a tenancy in someone else’s ledger |
| Advance | people who can start with an empty wallet | requiring assets before anyone can join |
| Connect | identities recognised in two or more places | islands |
| Harmonise | the share of transactions with two independent parties | features that serve only one side |
| Preserve | the oldest record still reachable, back to the first block | optimising this quarter, closing the doors ten years later |

The table deliberately does not say how far along each mission is; what runs today is in the docs’ risks and open questions.

## Where the gap is widest

Three missions are furthest from their goal: Agree, Heal and Honour. All three face the past, which the docs call no coincidence: promises are cheap; treating what already happened decently is what costs. Protect still depends on the nodes leaving a single place.

A young project is not there yet: that is its age, not a choice. One path serves all four, and it is the cheapest: spread the nodes out, then engrave a readable schedule for handing over power. On-chain governance is not open yet.

## Why missions are written to outlast implementations

Implementations change; the missions are written to still mean the same thing long after the current code is gone. Three reasons:

- **No final version.** No release will be declared finished. If the code never stops changing, something has to stay still to measure the change against.
- **The engine itself is still open.** Two public test networks, A1 and C1, run the same platform on different engines; the order is alphabetical and carries no ranking. The community will vote on the engine for the official network; that vote is not open yet. A mission tied to one engine would not survive it.
- **Measured, not believed.** The [Why 9Chain exists](https://docs.9chain.org/vi/vi-sao-9chain-ton-tai) page says a project should be judged by the gap between where it stands and where it says it is going. Missions with visible signs make that gap measurable, whatever code runs.

In the docs’ words: not nine things to believe, but nine things to see. Whether the gap between words and signs narrows is the real answer, and time will tell.
